History

The Extra ordinary General Body of the St.Gregorios Indian Orthodox Maha Edavaka held on 26th April 2011 presided by the Diocesan Metropolitan of Calcutta Diocese H.G. Dr.Joseph Mar Dionysius declared the birth of St.Basil Indian Orthodox Church.
The lead role taken by the members of the “Mar Basalios Orthodox Fellowship “, an independent spiritual and charitable organization of the St.Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church members ( founded in 1996 ) along with several other Parish Members requested to the Diocesan Metropolitan H.G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius to have a separate independent church in Kuwait under the Calcutta Diocese of the Malankara Indian Orthodox Syrian Church under the spiritual guidance of H.H. Moran Mar Basalios Marthoma Poulose II
The St. Basil Indian Orthodox Parish was founded in the name of “St.Basil the Great”’. He was also known as the Basil of Caesarea. He was the Greek bishop of Caesarea Mazaca in Cappodica, Turkey.
By Kalpana # DOC 2011-12/11 dated 29th April 2011 by H.G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius the Metropolitan of Calcutta Diocese declared the newly formed Church the St.Basil a reality in the State of Kuwait. It becomes an important mile stone in the books of the Malankara Orthodox Church when the church was celebrating the Centenary Celebration during the year 2011.
It becomes the 3rd Independent Parish under the Malankara Syrian Indian Orthodox Church. The said Kalapana has stated that the said parish will perform Holy Qurbana at Riggai as well as at the NECK (The National Evangelical Church compound) on every Friday and Saturday respectively. The General body (12th April 2011) of the St.Gregorios Indian Orthodox Maha Edavaka had elected an “Adhoc Committee as H.G. Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius as the Patron, Rev. Fr. Jose Mathew as the President, Rev.Fr. George Varughese as the Vice President, Mr. Rajiv Vanchipalam as the General Convenor, Mr. Honey Kurian as the Secretary, Mr. Anil George, Mr. Alex Varghese, Mr.Varghese Joseph, Mr. Mathews Ommen, Mr. George Papachen as committee members. An advisory committee consist of Mr. Kurian Varghese, Mr. Babu Varghese and Mr. Shaji Abraham was at helm.
The Initial service of the St.Basil was held on 1st October 2011 at NECK and service at the Riggai Church compound held on 7th of October 2011.
The first Church Managing committee came to effect on October 2011.
Mr. Honey Kurian as Treasurer, Mr. Thomas Koshy as the Secretary, Mr. Rajiv Vanchipalam, Mr. Anil George, Mr. Biju Thomas, Mr. Christy Daniel, Mr. George Papachen, Mr. Laji Joseph, Mr. V.T. Varghese, Mr. Mathews Ommen, Mr. Rajan P.Baby, Mr. Subi George, Mr. Varghese Joseph, Mr. Wilson Thomas as church managing committee members. Auditors as Mr. Binu Chempalayam and Mr. Shaju John.
