More about International Fund for Houbara Conservation

The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) was established in 2006 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Driven by the belief that we have a duty to ensure the survival of this species for future generations, the late President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in response to the decreasing number of Houbara in the wild, established the first captive-breeding programme for the species in the 1970s. Designed to reinstate the close-to-extinct regional population of this highly prized bird, the seeds of the IFHC were sown.

Today, the IFHC continues the work of the late President and has grown into a global and holistic international conservation programme that is the number one source of information on the Houbara bustard. At its heart is its captive breeding and release programme, which continues to expand year on year.
