المعهد العربي لإنماء المدن، مؤسسة علمية استشارية تهتم بالمدينة في كافة مجالاتها واختصاصاتها وأغراضها ، وبالمدن العربية والشئون البلدية بصفة خاصة . وهو جهاز منظمة المدن العربية المتخصص في مجالات التدريب والأبحاث والاستشارات والتوثيق وكل ما من شأنه دعم وتحقيق أهداف المنظمة. المعهد منظمة غير حكومية ولا يهدف للربح. ومقره الدائم مدينة الرياض بالمملكة العربية السعودية.

بدأ المعهد ممارسة أنشطته بصورة فعلية عام 1980م ، ويعمل في مجال البحوث الحضرية والاستشارات الفنية . ويقدم المعهد العربي لإنماء المدن خدماته لأكثر من 400 مدينة وبلدية يمثلون 22 دولة عربية . وقد راعى في تنفيذ هذه الأنشطة أن تكون متصلة بالواقع العربي ومتطلبات الإصلاح والتطوير لرفع مستوى الخدمات والمرافق البلدية في المدن العربية .

يعمل المعهد في مجال اختصاصاته على تحقيق الأهداف التالية :
• رفع مستوى المدينـة العربيـة وتطويرهـا مع الحفـاظ على هويتها العربيـة وخصائصها التاريخيــة، وتراثها الحضاري والعمراني وإبراز أصالتها وسماتها المميزة .
• توثيق الصلات وتعزيز التعاون فيما بين المدن العربية وبينها وبين المنظمة والمعهد والمدن والهيئات الأخرى ذات العلاقة بمجالات نشاطها .
• تحديد مشاكل المدن والإدارات البلدية فيها والعمل على تذليل الصعوبات والمشاكل التي تعيق تقدمها ونموها وتطويرها وذلك عن طريق تقديم الخبرات العلمية والفنية والإدارية إليها أو عن طريق نقل نشاط المعهد العلمي والتطبيقي إلى المدن ذاتها استجابة لدعوه منها عند الاقتضاء .
• إجراء الدراسات والبحوث عن المدينة العربية في المجالات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والفنية والمعمارية والبيئية وغيرها .
• تقديم الخدمات الاستشارية والخبرات المهنية والتخصصية للمدن العربية في مجالات التخطيط الحضري ، والإسكان والخدمات البلدية وغير ذلك من المجالات التي يمارسها المعهد.
• إعداد عناصـر قـادرة ومؤهلـة لإدارة المدن وفق الأساليب والوسائل العلميـة الحديثـة المتبعة في هـذا المجال.
• إنشاء مركز أو أكثر لجمع المعلومات والبيانات والإحصاءات والوثائق عن المدن العربية وغيرها .

Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI)
Introduction:
Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI) is a consultative scientific foundation concerned with the city at all fields of its specialization and purposes, especially the Arab city and particularly the municipal affairs. AUDI is the Arab Towns Organization (ATO) arm specialized in areas of training, research, consultancy, documentation and all that would support and achieve the goals of ATO. AUDI is a non-governmental, not for profit organization. AUDI permanent headquarters is in the city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
AUDI commenced its activities effectively in 1980. AUDI is concerned with urban research and technical consultation. AUDI provides its services to 500 cities and municipalities representing 22 Arab countries. AUDI took into account that its activities to be pertinent to the Arab factual features and to identify the requirements for reform and development to upgrade the municipal services and utilities in Arab cities.
AUDI objectives:
• Upgrade the Arab city level and enhance development while preserving its identity, historical characteristics, cultural and architectural heritage, and highlight its distinctive features.
• Foster relationships and cooperation among Arab cities, the ATO, AUDI, as well as other cities and organisations with similar concerns.
• Identify and overcome the difficulties and problems that hinder progress, growth and development of cities and municipal administrations by providing them scientific, technical, and the administrative expertise; or through practicing AUDI scientific and applied activities at the requiring cities in response to their invitation as appropriate.
• Conduct studies and research on Arab cities in economic, social, technical, architectural, and environmental as well as other areas.
• Provision of advisory services and professional and specialized expertise to Arab cities in fields of urban planning, housing and municipal services as well as other areas of AUDI concern.
• Qualifying cadres capable of urban management, accord ing to modern scientific methods.
• Establishment of one center or more to collect information, data, statistics and documents about Arab and other cities.
