I teach art currently at Al Rushaid Village Compound in Saudi Arabia. My favorite art medium to work in is Canvass, but I also enjoy painting, drawing, and printmaking. While I enjoy creating art on my own, it is even more rewarding to share my love for art with my wonderful students. Their eagerness, willingness to learn, and talent make teaching a joy.
After two year of be teaching adults, just now in 2014 will start with children. I can't describe how exited I am because I know they will teach me more than I can teach to them.
In my beginning classes my goal is to encourage those who perhaps have never been involved in art or acrylics to learn basic skills and make creating art a part of their lives. Lessons are kept simple and we work at the student's pace. Subjects are usually landscape/seascape or floral/still/life and we work from photographs (discussing the perils and pitfalls of doing so) or by copying painting admired by the student (discussing copyright and intellectual property). I offer subjects and examples if the student needs prompting at first. I work with a very limited palette at first...the 3 primaries and white, adding other colors as the student learns to mix colors and develop their own color sense. Materials are kept simple and inexpensive.
As we continue we will experiment with more colors, various mediums, larger and smaller canvasses, different surfaces, and other equipment which students can decide to use depending on their interests.
Skills learned:
Properties of acrylic paints and the different types of acrylics
Color mixing and developing a palette
Types of brushes used and strokework
The use of mediums
Basic design
Surfaces to use with acrylics...paper, canvas, wood, metal
Painting from photographs...simplifying and using elements from different sources
Painting from life (if desired) - still life and floral, possible plain air.
